The Canon Film Chamber 250 is a specialised professional accessory for the first-generation Canon F-1. This large-capacity film magazine was designed for extended shooting sequences and can hold up to 250 exposures, using approximately 10 metres of 35mm film. The Film Chamber 250 was intended for applications such as sports photography, documentary work and situations where changing film frequently was impractical.
The chamber uses two dedicated Film Magazine 250 cassettes, one for unexposed film and one for exposed film. Film is transported through the camera by a motor-driven mechanism. The Film Chamber 250 works together with the Canon Motor Drive Unit and is also compatible with the Motor Drive MF. When used with the Motor Drive MF, the grip is removed and connected separately using a dedicated connecting cord.
It is an impressive example of the professional Canon F-1 system of the 1970s. The Film Chamber 250 was specifically designed for the original F-1 and F-1n and should not be confused with accessories for the later New F-1. Due to its specialised purpose and relative rarity, it is particularly interesting as a collector's item for enthusiasts of the Canon F-1 system.
