Canon Speedlite 580EX

The Canon Speedlite 580EX is a powerful flash designed for Canon EOS cameras and supports E-TTL II, E-TTL and TTL automatic flash exposure. It has a guide number of 58 at ISO 100 and a zoom range covering 24 to 105 mm. The built-in wide panel extends coverage to lenses as wide as 14 mm.

The flash head can be tilted and rotated for bounce flash from ceilings or walls. The 580EX also offers high-speed sync, flash exposure compensation and stroboscopic flash. Its optical wireless system allows the 580EX to operate as either a master or slave unit within the Canon Speedlite system.

The flash is powered by four AA batteries. Its construction and controls are characteristic of Canon's professional Speedlite range from this period.
