Introduced in 1953 by Zeiss Ikon Stuttgart, the Contaflex I represents a major milestone in post-war 35mm leaf-shutter SLR camera design. It features an exceptionally rigid all-metal construction with a fully removable back plate for seamless film loading.
The camera comes fitted with the legendary Carl Zeiss Tessar 45mm f/2.8 prime lens, celebrated worldwide for its high contrast and corner-to-corner sharpness. Framing is handled via a bright eye-level pentaprism glass viewfinder featuring a center split-image rangefinder spot. The optic is coupled with a precise Synchro-Compur central leaf shutter offering shutter speeds up to 1/500s plus Bulb.
